A
new EPA Standard called ERMI (Environmental Relative Moldiness
Index) which used EPA licensed laboratories and DNA analysis
to identify specific molds that are related to Asthma, Chronic
Rhino Sinusitis and Wheezing in infants. The USEPA office
of Research and Development has determined that some fungi
(molds) statistically associated with water intrusion exacerbated
asthma. The Mayo Clinic has reported that many cases of Chronic
Rhinosinusitis (CRS) is associated with various fungi (molds)
all of which can be analyzed utilizing DNA.
Infrared Consultants follows the USEPA opinion
that DNA is the Gold Standard for Air Quality analysis. Using
uniquely designed hand held samplers combined with specialized
capture cassettes our field staff is able to sample indoor
environments for Asthma triggers (fungi) as well as other
organisms that may influence human health.
Infrared Consulatnts provides ERMI analysis
which is perfomred at our state-of-the-art company owned laboratory
- Clean Air Labs. In addition to ERMI our field investigations
include DNA analysis for molds and Bacteria and combine these
results with our observations to produce a treatment plan
(protocol) for our clients. These reports can range from a
single family home to a large commercial development.
Two simple indoor dust samples are collected
and are sent to our laboratory for analysis. Results are sent
to the client in 7 days and provide an ERMI score that ranks
the property against the EPA database. A low ERMI score indicates
that the property has a normal indoor fungal ecology and a
moderate to high score indicates that elevated mold spores
are present that may link individuals to the respiratory issues
identified above. ERMI replaces all previous air sampling
and is the recognized by the EPA as the “Gold Standard”
for indoor air testing for mold. |
